Thulane Isaac Ntombela from Ext 24, eMbalenhle appeared before Magistrate Graham Cupido in the Secunda Regional Court for his trial and sentencing.

He was found guilty of raping a 14-year-old girl in September 2017.

According to the investigating officer, Sgt Hezekiel Malapela from the Secunda Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS), Ntombela accosted the child on the street late one afternoon. He grabbed her, held a knife on her, dragged her to a secluded place and raped her.

The girl knew who Ntombela was and reported him to the police. He was arrested, but granted bail.

A year later while still out on bail, he struck again.

Ntombela went to his second victim’s house in September 2018 under the rouse of discussing church matters with her. They attended the same church.

The 14-year-old girl was overpowered in the living room and raped while her brother was in his room.

Ntombela ran off after committing the crime.

The girl reported the attack to the police and Ntombela was rearrested.

Mr Cupido sentenced Ntombela to 15 years’ imprisonment on both counts of rape of which part of the sentences will run concurrently.

Ntombela will therefore effectively spend 20 years behind bars.

Ms Phumzile Nkosi was the prosecutor.
