Sponsor one bread this Mandela Day

They plan to cook 200 litres of soup that will be delivered to several distribution points throughout Secunda, Trichardt, Evander, eMbalenhle and Kinross.

HIGHVELD – In this time of trouble and turmoil in both South Africa and the rest of the world, you can still make a difference within your community.

With only one bread you can reach out to those less fortunate this Mandela Day, 18 July.

A local Mandela Day team led by Mr Armand Riekert of the Oregon Spur and Past Randall Donnelly from His Way Family Church, and which involves numerous businesses and organisations, again wants to pay-it-forward with a Soup and Bread Drive this year.

They plan to cook 200 litres of soup that will be delivered to several distribution points throughout Secunda, Trichardt, Evander, eMbalenhle and Kinross.

“We are talking to several sponsors for donations towards the soup ingredients, but we are calling on the community to support this cause by donating bread,” said Mr Riekert.

“Times are tough economically and emotionally – that is why we are asking for something small that can eventually mean something big to a child who has not had a warm meal in days.

“I believe that even in the hard times, there is still humanity in all of us.”

Due to the lockdown regulations, the team will not be handing out cups of soup and slices of bread, but will rather drop off the soup and bread in bulk and then ask the contact persons at each point to distribute the servings.

Become part of this initiative and help give a needy family a meal, by simply bringing bread to the table. You can also donate tinned food if you so wish.

You can donate your bread during the week before Mandela Day at several drop-off points, namely the Oregon Spur, Secunda Mall management, His Way Family Church and at the Ridge Times‘ offices.

The cut off time for bringing bread is at 11am on Friday, 17 July.
