Govan Mbeki Municipality calls on residents to report illegal connections

eMBALENHLE – The Govan Mbeki Municipality has named and shamed residents who illegally connected electricity in Extension 26.

The municipal law enforcement and the technicians accompanied by the police embarked on an operation to disconnect illegal connections in the area.

The municipality published over 15 stand numbers that were allegedly inspected and disconnected for illegal connections.

The management appealed to residents of eMbalenhle to report any illegal electrical connections. Illegal connections are among the reasons that there are continuous power outages experienced in the area.

Mr Benzi Soko, municipal spokesman, said the area has been experiencing overloading of its electricity infrastructure, which caused a series of power outages as a result of illegal connections.

“To save lives, protect the electricity infrastructure, and to curb distribution losses which run into millions of Rand, the municipality will continue taking a strong stand against illegal connections.
