Evander Hospital ready for spike of Covid-19

Ms Thembi Siweya, deputy minister in the presidency, praised the hospital for it state of readiness.

EVANDER – Ms Thembi Siweya, deputy minister in the presidency, was satisfied with the Evander Hospital’s compliance with applicable Covid-19 regulations.

She conducted a monitoring visit at the hospital on Friday 29, May.

Her visit was part of the broader Frontline Monitoring Programme of the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME) which is aimed at assessing the implementation of all socio-economic interventions that are being announced by the President to contain the spread of the Covid-19, provide relief for those who are mostly affected and to reignite the economy.

The purpose of the visit to Evander Hospital is to assess compliance with applicable Covid-19 regulations, availability of resources and equipment to ensure effective delivery of services, and efficiency of the established systems.

An amount of R20-billion has been dedicated to the Department of Health in an effort to ensure effective response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This commitment is intended to provide for additional expenditure of personal protective equipment for health workers, community screening, an increase in testing capacity, additional beds in field hospitals, ventilators, medicine and staffing.

“This hospital seems to have responded positively to this invisible virus.

“We are happy that we have Cuban doctors who are also on board to assist.

“This province also has linked pharmacies from where people can get medication.

“Those who have chronic diseases are given three months’ supply so that they can stay home.”

Ms Siweya praised and encouraged the doctors and nurses for their hand work.

She urged them to spread the awareness to their families and friends.

Ms Sesekani Manzini, MEC of Health in Mpumalanga, said with the door-to-door screening, over three million people have be screened in the province.

She said more than 800 thousand people were screened in various clinics and hospitals in the province.

At the time of going to the press, the Govan Mbeki Municipality had 18 positive Covid-19 case and three recoveries.
