The communications officer of the Sakhile Police, Const Duduzile Zwane, said on Friday, 29 May that 11 trial-awaiting prisoners escaped from the holding cells in Sakhile.
Police arrested them in connection with charges ranging from dealing in drugs, housebreaking and robbery to rape.
Minors were involved in the latter charge.
