Kinross police arrest 2 for illegal cigarettes and bribery

The cops confiscated 467 cartons of cigarettes valued at about R140 000.

KINROSS – The police arrested two men for possession of illegal cigarettes and bribery this afternoon, 27 May.

According to Sgt Jaco Nagel, spokesman for Kinross Police Station, they received a tip off of two Somali nationals offloading cigarettes at a house in Gardenia Street. The

Kinross Police and members of the K9 Unit followed up on the lead.

The suspects tried to bribe the policemen with R5 000 when they arrived at the suspects’ house.

The cops confiscated 467 cartons of cigarettes valued at about R140 000.

The cigarettes and the R5 000 were booked in at the police station and the suspects will appear in court tomorrow, 28 May.

They were arrested among other charges, for the contravention of Covid-19 laws pertaining to the transport of cigarettes.
