Mpumalanga’s Health MEC says employee at Shondoni Mine tested positive for Covid-19

The young man who tested positive works at the Simunye shaft of the Shondoni Mine. His colleagues were also tested today and have been sent home to self-isolate until they know the test results.

SECUNDA – Ms Sasekani Manzini, Mpumalanga MEC of Health, said today, 18 May, a worker at Sasol’s Shondoni Mine tested positive for Covid-19.

She released this information during a visit to the mine.

Ms Manzini was taken through Sasol Mining’s strategy of testing and screening their employees. The company has their own labs in place where employees are tested.

The MEC was very impressed with the process.

The young man who tested positive works at the Simunye shaft of the Shondoni Mine. His colleagues were also tested today and have been sent home to self-isolate until they know the test results.

“We are happy with what they (Sasol) are doing in terms of entry into the grounds, screening and making sure that they have trained all their workers on what to look for when it comes to recognising symptoms of the Covid-19,” said Ms Manzini.
