Dirk Smith is first plasma donor in Bethal

Donate plasma at Bethal or Secunda blood services

BETHAL – The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) branch in Bethal recently got a new plasma machine.

This machine will make it possible for donors to only donate plasma.

Mr Dirk Smith was the first donor to donate plasma at the SANBS in Bethal on Wednesday, 19 February.

Just as blood, plasma is also essential in saving lives.

Although anyone can donate plasma, the blood service specifically wants donors with types A and AB blood to donate plasma.

Plasma of blood group AB is in high demand and it can be used by anyone regardless of their blood type.

Donors can donate plasma every two weeks and to a maximum of 24 times a year.

Donors will undergo the normal process as they undergo when donating blood when they donate plasma and the duration of the whole process is about an hour.

Visit SANBS in Bethal or Secunda to donate plasma or blood.
