BETHAL – A 34-year-old Nigerian citizen was arrested today, 19 February, for drug possession.
Sgt Anastacia Magisela and Const Khomotso Sekele from Secunda K9 unit, along with the police’s Crime Intelligence arrested the suspect after receiving a tip off about the driver of a silver Opel Corsa involved in drug trafficking in Bethal CBD. He was apparently using this vehicle to transport the drugs.
According to Const Thomas Mogadime, spokesman for the Bethal Police, the cops responded swiftly and spotted the idling vehicle next to FB Butchery. “They requested the driver to switch off the engine in order for them to conduct a search. The driver did not comply with the police’s instruction and decided to drive off. “

The police gave chase and caught him. They searched the vehicle at the suspect’s house. The cops found a green plastic bag containing a white substance suspected to be drugs. The suspect was asked what the substance was and he confirmed that it is drugs.

“The suspect further informed the police that the substance is crystal meth weighing 60g and CAT weighing 120g with the street value of R56 000,” said Const Mogadime.
The arrested Nigerian was then taken to Bethal police station and will soon appear in the Bethal Magistrate’s Court.
