Jabulile establishes group to donate water to schools in Sakhile

Their brainstorming sessions resulted in a team of 10 volunteers now donating water to schools in Sakhile.

A senior technician at Tutuka Power Station, Ms Jabulile Makhubu, did not put her belief that learners should have a good infrastructure at schools, on the back burner.

Jabulile joined the power station in 2006 as learner plant operator.

After seeing a Facebook-post in January this year about the water quality in Kosmospark, she contacted her brother, Johnson and asked what can be done about it.

His advice prompted her to begin a campaign to donate water to schools, but she was at first somewhat hesitant and in two minds.

“I felt it was too big for me and prayed for direction. The next morning I knew that I needed people with certain qualities.”

Social media came into play and they were thinking out of the box while the municipality is solving the water problem.

Their brainstorming sessions resulted in a team of 10 volunteers now donating water to schools in Sakhile.

The possibility of JoJo-tanks was carefully considered as well. Parents of children at Laerskool Standerton were asked last year if they were willing and able to bring a 5-litre water bottle to school.

Jabulile then thought about the parents in Sakhile and iGugulabasha Primary School sprang to mind.

“It was the first school I saw in the township that touched me,” she added.

The school will be the recipient of 20-litre water per class on 13 February.”I believe I don’t have everything, but with the little I have and the little you have, we can do something,” Jabulile concluded.

Anybody who would like to join their team, can call 071 193 4520 and at both Pick n Pays in Standerton, trolleys are available for contributions.
