WATCH: Former bartender from Secunda turns magician

I like to think of myself as more of a street magician

SECUNDA – Whether you believe in magic or not, you will be astounded by the tricks Kash Money Magic, a local magician conjures up.

This self-taught illusionist solves a Rubik’s Cube in the blink of an eye, makes objects move and seems to read your mind when he takes a card trick even further and embosses your chosen card into another with a lighter.

With the spiked hair and lots of bling, he reminds you of the television entertainer, Chris Angel.

“I think it is kind of cool to be compared to Chris Angel,” Kash confessed.

“Although I do perform on stage and at parties, I like to think of myself as more of a street magician,” he said.

This 32-year-old electrician by trade, works his magic at any type of venue, from kiddie parties right up to performing at Sun City.

He grew up in Newcastle as Kashveer Lechman whose nickname Kash was meant for the stage.

The Lechman-family struggled financially and young Kash often worked in the afternoons after school to help his parents.

“I later worked as a bartender. Here I learned how to entertain a crowd with amazing bartender skills and tricks,” he explained.

Kash relocated to the Secunda area in 2008 when he was accepted as an electrical apprentice. He later brought his parents to live with him.

“The magic really sparked for me when I bought a Chris Angel magic kit. I practice in front of the mirror and would first try a new trick on my fiancé, Veronique,” he said.

Kash just laughs when people ask if there are some dark forces or special powers at work when he performs.

“No, it truly is just illusions and slight of hand. Magic is about confidence and engaging people.

“Sure, I have scared some people before with my tricks, but superstition plays a major role in this.

“Then there are the hecklers who will do anything to figure out how I did something.”

According to him, kids are not as easy crowd as one would think.

“It is tough to keep little ones entertained with simple tricks. You need much more props to keep their attention.”

He said magic tricks are not always 100 per cent spot-on, and sometimes you have to improvise.

“Magic is a constant learning curve and there is always a next best thing that you want to try.”

Kash dreams of one day being a full-time entertainer and to meet Chris Angel and Dynamo.
