The Standerton Advertiser kept abreast of what was happening and a search through the archives showed that the taxi rank in Rooikoppen was vandalised after it was upgraded at a cost of R10-million.

The former spokesman of the municipality, Mr Spiho Mkwanazi, then said the rank was not sold as per Sanco’s claim, because no money was deposited in the municipal account.

Former municipal manager, Mr Linda Tshabalala, said the land next to the rank was sold after council agreed to it.

Mr Tshabalala also said Messrs Marongo and Orapeleng Dipone, also deceased, signed off the processing of the sale.

The municipality later discovered that BHR Consulting Proprietary Limited did not deposit the money in the municipal account, and alleged that it was paid into Mr Marongo’s account.
