Ermelo man scammed out of R93 000 after online purchase goes south

However, after he paid the deposit he could not get hold of the seller and realised that it was a scam.

Capt Carla Prinsloo, spokesman of Ermelo Police, warned residents to refrain from buying expensive items over the internet.

Ermelo police are investigating a case of fraud.

The complainant said, he saw an online advert for the private sale of a vehicle.

“He contacted the seller and was told to pay a deposit of R 93 000.”

However, after he paid the deposit he could not get hold of the seller and realised that he had been scammed out of his money.

The police advises people to be extremely cautious when conducting business transactions or purchases online.
