eMbalenhle teacher cleans dumping sites

He said illegal dumping area are posing health hazards to locals and animals.

eMBALENHLE – Mr Phindile Sibande, community member, volunteered to clean up illegal rubbish dumps in Extension 11.

This local teacher and activist began cleaning up and clearing out the illegal dumps in the area after he noticed a high increase of illegal dumping in eMbalenhle.

He said almost every section in the area has an illegal dumping site or the waste is dumped alongside the road.

It has become a common practice for the residents of eMbalenhle to dump waste everywhere.

Locals often dump old household items, construction waste and other waste at non-designated dumping sites.

This trend is on the rise and will soon cause health hazards to the residents.

“This bad culture of littering and dumping garbage next to the roads, is increasing in the area.

“Motorists are often seen throwing out rubbish through their car windows.

“It is time that, as the community, we stand against this practice. I decided not to wait for anyone, but to lead a way. This garbage is causing a stench which is posing serious health hazards,” said Mr Sibande.

Mr Sibande called on locals to join him in this initiative.

He is not doing this to be recognised as a hero, but to bring a positive change in the community. He hopes many will join him and restore the beauty of eMbalenhle.

“Our township is in ruins, because of the illegal dumping.

“I am challenging everyone to take a stand against this and to take responsibility.”

Mr Sibande is using his own resources to clean up and he is happy to contribute the little he has towards the upliftment of the community.
