Trees are not billboards in Ermelo

“The advertisement signs by-law prohibits any advertisement or sign that is painted onto or attached in any manner to any tree, plant, rock or to any other natural feature.”

Residents use trees as advertising poles for their companies in Ermelo.

De Jager Street is one of many streets where trees are being used as billboards.

The Highvelder became aware of how residents feel about trees after the article, ‘Residents say prune trees, don’t ruin trees’ was published.

Residents were disgruntled about municipal workers who hacked down trees in Kerk Street on 15 November.

Mr Mandla Zwane, spokesman of Msukaligwa Municipality, said, companies are not allowed to use trees to advertise.

“The advertisement signs by-law prohibits any advertisement or sign that is painted onto or attached in any manner to any tree, plant, rock or to any other natural feature.”
