Security guards not yet paid, but various offices are operating again

Security guards from V&M Projects moved in and locked up various offices in the Govan Mbeki municipal area yesterday, 15 January out of frustration for not being paid their salaries.

Their company is a service provider for the Department of Safety and Security in Mpumalanga and the locked offices belong to provincially-run departments such as the Department of Education and the Department of Transport.
Mr Lucky Zondo, a representative in Mpumalanga of the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) have been liaising with the security guards today where they gathered under trees at the vehicle testing station grounds in Secunda.
Although the guards, dressed in their uniforms, were at the premises, they were not on their posts.
Mr Zondo said the Department of Health, where the security guards are positioned at hospitals in the area, is also affected by the non-payment of security workers.
