Divers and medics from Secunda attend drowning scene, rescue people off car top in river
They were called to the first scene at about 8.20pm
HIGHVELD – Delta 1 Rescue Diving, Mpumalana Inland Water Policing and ER 24 ambulance services rushed to two respective scenes in the rain and storm last night, 13 January.
They were called to the first scene at about 8.20pm. Bethal Police alerted the teams about a body floating in a river between Bethal and Kriel.
Mr Andries Lee, director of Delta 1 Rescue Diving, said the body was recovered under very difficult circumstances.
The teams were scarcely home when another call came in at about 11.30pm asking their help with a rescue attempt near Syferfontein Mine.
Flood water washed a vehicle off a narrow farm bridge and the two occupants from the vehicle were trapped on the roof.
The teams, with the help of Sasol Fire Brigade, rescued the occupants without any injuries sustained.
