Man claims TV prophet defrauded him

Police ask locals to avoid depositing money into accounts of strangers

eMBALENHLE – A man who is desperate to find help for his sick father was left hopeless and disappointed after he was allegedly defrauded by a popular prophet.

The alleged prophet often have services in Standerton and those services are aired on various TV channels.

The victim was watching one of these church services on TV when the contact details were televised for those who needs a one-on-one session with the prophet.

He then allegedly contacted the prophet’s personal assistant and who allegedly told the desperate man that it costs R1 500 to book a session with the prophet and that he should make an online deposit.

Const Busi Mthethwa, police spokesman, said the victim allegedly deposited the money as told, but when he contacted the prophet and his assistant, the phone number was no longer available.

She said police are investigating.
