SECUNDA – A 54-years-old man was arrested after he allegedly conspired and plotted to assassinate his ex-wife (42) in Secunda.

The arrest followed after allegations that the suspect hired a woman (39) to assist with the planned plot.

They met and the suspect told the woman that he will arrange a firearm, or she can use the acid which he will organise from the mine where he is working.

He allegedly told the assassin to on toss the acid in his ex-wife’s face.

This would apparently burn his former spouse’s skin and instantly kill her.

Capt Dineo Sekgotodi, spokesman of the Hawks in Mpumalanga, said another alternative plan was to give the assasin the house’s spare keys to access during the night and inject ex-wife with a toxin to kill her.

The hired woman decided not to go through with the plan and located the victim through social media.

The two women arranged a meeting in eMbalenhle during which the co-conspirator explained the plot to the victim and also shared with her the voice note clips which she recorded during her interaction with the suspect.

The matter was reported to the Hawks` Serious Organised Crime Investigation Secunda and the enquiry was registered.

Capt Sekgotodi said the suspect phoned the hired hand on Tuesday 17 December, at about 9pm and told her that because she is delaying, he is on his way to execute the plot himself.

This information was conveyed to the Hawks` members who planned a intelligence driven operation which led to the arrest of the suspect on his way to the victim’s house.

During the arrest the suspect was in possession of his legal 9mm Norinco firearm and it was seized.

The suspect was arrested and he will appear in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 19 December for conspiracy to commit murder.
