Stalwart of Secunda needs help after recent stroke

The stroke caused serious damage. Mr Labuschagne is currently in a rehabilitation facility in Pretoria, but when he returns home, he is going to need full-time care and lots of therapy

SECUNDA – Mr Piet Labuschagne (78), a former town councillor and long-time resident of Secunda, needs help.

This stalwart in the community experienced a massive stroke on 21 September and is now in need of full-time care.

Mr Labuschagne, also affectionately known as ‘Oom Piet’, came to Secunda in 1977 with his wife, Elise, and infant son, Pieter.

Mr Labuschagne has since been involved in local communities in many ways.

He was involved in the construction of Sasol, and his trucks have been seen in all the local areas over the past decades.

Mr Labuschagne was a councillor of the Govan Mbeki Municipality for many years and, as such, gave his all for the upliftment of all the local communities.

He has done much to improve the quality of life across the spectrum of communities, locally and even wider.

He had a passion for children and their safety and was the one who initiated the speed humps around all the schools, to better ensure the safety of learners.

The stroke caused serious damage. Mr Labuschagne was in a rehabilitation facility in Pretoria, but has since returned home.

He needs full-time care and lots of therapy.

His wife, Ms Elize Labuschagne, said their medical aid will not be able to cover all the expenses.

There will also be various nursing aids needed.

A fund has been initiating to help cover the expenses.

The fund will be administrated by the law firm, Cronje, de Waal and Skhosana Inc.
