The official opposition in the Lekwa Municipality has problems in council meetings keeping abreast of arguments since Zulu is often used as preferred language.
According to Mr Rosier de Ville, caucus leader of the DA, the party intends to discuss the language policy at the next meeting of the rules committee.
“We have had a gentlemen’s agreement in the past that councillors may use their language of choice.
“In the absence of an interpreter, no well-considered debate is possible,” Mr De Ville said.
