Company plans to upgrade CBD in Secunda

Project to fence off CBD will begin in November

SECUNDA – Big plans to give the CBD a new look and make it a safer place for the public, is underway.

Mr Imraan Salajee, director of Imojoe International, a company that owns several buildings in the CBD, took the initiative and already began cleaning some of the garden areas in the CBD.

Imojoe International took hands with one of the other companies that owns property in the CBD, Fortress Income Group.

They are planning to errect Clear Vu fencing around the CBD with access controlled gates, as well as security guards.

The gates will be open during the day, but will close at 6pm daily and access after 6pm will be controlled.

“We want to create a safer, cleaner environment for everyone and attract people to visit the businesses in the CBD,” said Mr Salajee.

He already had meetings with municipal officials of Govan Mbeki Municipality and they gave the green light to go ahead with the planned perimeter fence.

The municipality also agreed to enforce by-laws and to support the upgrading process of the CBD.

The work on the fence will begin on 1 November.

“Be the change you want to see in your town,” said Mr Salajee.

“If we can get new tenants in the CBD, it will also create more jobs.

“The community needs to take ownership of the town in which they live. If we all wait for somebody else to do something, nothing will happen.”

Once the fence is up, the next phase of the project includes getting permanent cleaners in the area and painting the parking area.

Mr Salajee also plans to plant more trees in this area to make it a greener environment for all patrons visiting the CBD.

He urged residents to pick up litter if they see it laying around and take control of their environment. There is a lot of potential in the CBD.”
