Desiré Lebotschy dies at her home in Standerton

She was a high-spirited woman who had an answer ready for whatever life threw at her, but will be mostly remembered for her keen interest in the lives of her friends and acquaintances, managing to forge strong friendship bonds.

A well-known resident of Standerton, Ms Desiré Lebotschy, passed away at her home in Paarl Street just before midnight on Thursday, 15 August due to diabetes-related complications.

She was born in town and her first job was at the Receiver of Revenue in town, followed by employment at Ironside Greenwood Accountants in Johannesburg for many years, before returning to Standerton to look after her parents.

She worked at Early Bird until her retirement.

Her accounting skills were put to good use for several years as treasurer of the body corporate of the complex she stayed in.

She was a high-spirited woman who had an answer ready for whatever life threw at her, but will be mostly remembered for her keen interest in the lives of her friends and acquaintances, managing to forge strong friendship bonds.

She had a lively sense of humour and knew what was going in her town, country and the world.

“She was loved by all and cared for all,” Ms Cathy Kane-Berman, a friend, said.

Another friend, Ms Gillian Dawes, said she was a special person that could be seen from the wonderful support she got during her illness.

“I think it was because she was genuinely interested in everyone she met.

“My kids loved her more than they loved me.

“Her mother was a darling and Desi took after her.”

A memorial service will be held at a later stage.
