GMM install new transformer in eMbalenhle Extension 18

eMbalenhle residents no longer need a stick in order to have electricity

eMBALENHLE – A new transformer has been installed in Extension 18 after years of depending on a faulty transformer to supply electricity to the area.

The residents experienced blackouts for longer than 24-hours at a time.

The old transformer tripped almost on the hour and residents made plans to fix the problem themselves.

The problematic transformer is situated next to the house of the ward councillor, Ms Thandiwe Zulu.

The residents used a long stick to switch on the lever when it tripped.

They knew that doing this is dangerous, but they need electricity.

“We did not have a choice, because the municipality was not attending to the problem.

“We decided that if the municipality is not helping us, we will do this by ourselves.

“We kept the stick next to the transformer so that whenever it trips whoever is around could just pull it back.”

Ms Zulu said she is happy that new transformer is installed.
