Police arrest 12 illegal miners in Evander

The arrest was executed during a joint operation of the Secunda Cluster stations, CIG, Secunda K9 unit and Visible Policing.

EVANDER – The police arrested 12 illegal miners (zama-zama) in a disruptive operation in Evander this morning, 25 July.

The illegal miners are between the ages of 18 and 35 years old.

Most of them are also in the country illegally.

The arrest was executed during a joint operation of the Secunda Cluster stations, CIG, Secunda K9 unit and Visible Policing.

The suspects will all appear in the Evander Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, 26 July on charges of illegal mining, trespassing and contravening the Immigration Act.
