Evander Sassa and DSD offices closed

EVANDER – The Department of Social Development (DSD) and the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) offices have been closed for more than a month.

This has left hundreds of beneficiaries unattended and stranded.

According to the DSD workers, they were instructed by the head of the department to vacate the offices after they have raised their concerns over the state of the building.

It is an asbestos building with 45 workers sharing 10 offices.

The workers said they were not told where to go after vacating the office.

They added that the offices were posing a health risk and there is no privacy for the beneficiaries.

At first, they reported on duty daily, but stayed outside the offices until they were tired.

They alleged that the department has not contacted them with any further instructions.

Sassa officials were not available for comment.
