More gang-related cases opened at eMbalenhle Police Station

eMBALENHLE – eMbalenhle continues to be the turf for gang wars.

Several cases of assault and attempted murder linked to gang fights have been reported to the police.

According to the police most of the statements in their possession, link these incidents to the Basotho Initiation School.

In a recent assault case, the victim claimed he was from an initiation school when three men confronted him.

They were allegedly armed with pangas, knives and beer bottles.

The victim tried to escape, but his attackers caught and stomped on him.

He was left bleeding. He was later taken to the Evander Hospital.

In another incident, a group of men in a bakkie were also coming from the initiation school when a group of men stopped them.

The gang allegedly began to assault the driver and, when the other tried intervene, they were also severely assaulted.

Police said no one has yet been arrested.

Residents have raised their concerns over the prevalence of gangsters in the area.

They said their lives are in danger as they are being terrorized daily by the alleged gangs.

They no longer feel safe to go out, especially at night.

Locals alleged that the criminal groups have taken over the township and are causing havoc and disharmony.

Const Busi Mthethwa, police spokesman, said residents recently mobilised themselves and confronted some of the alleged gang members.

“We received a call that a man was being assaulted.

“We responded to the scene and rescued the man.

“He was taken to the Evander Hospital.”
