Alleged Van der Hoven murderer’s case postponed

Case postponed to October

SECUNDA – Mr Bongezi Gladwin Mdeliswa who is connected with the murder of Mr Louis van der Hoven (42) who died on Monday, 10 July in 2017, appeared in the Evander Regional Court on Tuesday, 9 July on a murder charge.

Mr Van der Hoven was stabbed with a knife on Friday, 7 July in 2017 and died in hospital a few days later.

Mr Mdeliswa’s case was postponed to 29 October.

At the time of the crime, Mr Van der Hoven was apparently on his way to attend an event and stopped next to the road between Secunda and Trichardt to give a few hitchhikers a lift.

He said they could ride on the back of his bakkie.

The hitchhikers then allegedly began fighting and Mr Van der Hoven stopped the vehicle and asked them to get off.

One of the men allegedly began assaulting a woman and Mr Van der Hoven tried to intervene when he was stabbed with the knife in his eye.

Mr Van der Hoven was involved with building projects at Terra Nova in Trichardt.
