Six armed robbery suspects, police constable denied bail

The suspects will again appear in court on Thursday, 30 July.

eMZINONI – A police constable and his six friends suspected of robbing a local supermarket in Bethal on 2 July, was denied bail in the Bethal Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 11 July.

Const Tshepo Skosana (35) and Messrs Andrew Mathebula (38), Themba Ngubeni (33), Mthuthuzeli Maekiso (24), Sthembiso Maziya (18), Phathizwe Ntshangase (25) and Vusi Mkhonto (36) were arrested at a nearby guest house in Bethal after they allegedly committed business robbery at a local supermarket.

A security guard was shot in the chest during the heist.

According to the police, four vehicles were used to commit the crime.

Only two vehicles were confiscated of which one belongs to the state.

The suspects allegedly appeared on the video footage at the supermarket and also at the guest house.

They will again appear in court on Thursday, 30 July.
