Secunda woman gets three years imprisonment or fine for dealing in drugs

Men walk free after woman pleads guilty

SECUNDA – Ms Belinda Margaret Swart (49) was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment of which 18 months are suspended for five years or a fine of R12 000 of which R9 000 is suspended for five years.

This means she had the option of paying a R3 000 fine or going to prison for 18 months effectively.

She was sentence in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 3 June after she was arrested on 12 August last year with Messrs Therandran Frank Naidoo and Japhet Chiebuka Onuoha (Jeff), on charges of dealing in drugs.

The trio was found travelling in a Toyota Fortuner on the road between Secunda and Evander when the police and the Mpumalanga Hawks South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau arrested them and found crystal meth to the value of R31 000 in their possession.

The two men were freed when the state withdrew its case against them after Ms Swart pleaded guilty.
