UPDATE – Motorcyclist undergoes surgery again after accident

Mr André Van Wyk, driver of the Honda Motor Bike, is in critical condition.

UPDATE: 13 June – 4.08pm

Ms Bernadett van der Merwe, Mr André van Wyk’s daughter, informed the Highvelder that Mr Van Wyk will undergo yet another operation, this time on his pelvis.

This follows after a bakkie crashed into him and he sustained several injuries.

During the first operation his spleen, that burst in the accident, was removed.

He still has to undergo surgery on both of his shoulders that were broken.

According to his daughter, that surgery will take place on 17 June.


UPDATE: 08 June – 7.34pm 

Mr Hannes Nagel, a paramedic from ER24 confirmed that Mr Van Wyk has a bilateral rib fracture, pelvis fracture and internal bleeding.

A Netcare 911 helicopter was sent to pick up Mr van Wyk on the Ligbron Academy of Technology’s rugby field at around 4.30pm, however, the helicopter allegedly experienced technical problems and a second helicopter was sent to Ermelo, which arrived at 6.45pm.

Mr Van Wyk is currently being transferred to Milpark Netcare Hospital in Johannesburg.


08 June – 7.04pm 

An accident on the corner of Church and Jacobs Street at around noon left a biker in a critical condition.

A Toyota Hilux and Honda motorbike were involved in the accident.

The Accident on the corner of Church Street and Jacobs Street in Ermelo left a motorcyclist in a critical condition.

The Toyota Hilux allegedly left the scene and went to the Ermelo Police Station to report the accident.

The driver of the Toyota had children with her in the vehicle, but neither she nor the children sustained any injuries.

Mr André Van Wyk, the motorcyclist, is in a critical condition.

ER24 and Ermelo Fire Department were on the scene.

Netcare 911 helicopter services transferred Mr Van Wyk from Medic Clinic Ermelo to Netcare Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg.

Capt Carla Prinsloo, the spokesman of Ermelo Police Station, said: “A case of reckless and negligent driving is being investigated by the Ermelo Police.”

ER24 and Ermelo Fire Department were on the scene.
