Cancer claims Secunda LEGIT-Hope founder

She found joy and support in her faith, her family and her friends who described her as a positive and passionate person

SECUNDA – Ms Samantha Byrne (30), a founding member of the welfare organisation LEGIT-Hope, died at home early on Thursday morning, 23 May.

Ms Byrne was known by all whose lives she touched as a person with a kind and giving heart.

Despite receiving treatment for breast cancer last year, Ms Byrne headed up LEGIT-Hope, an organisation set on providing the homeless in Secunda with a hearty home cooked meal every Thursday night.

She told Ridge Times in September last year that one of the best ways to stay positive when you fight cancer, is to focus on helping others.

The cancer returned with a vengeance a few months ago and Ms Byrne was in and out of hospital.

She found joy and support in her faith, her family and her friends who described her as a positive and passionate person.

She leaves behind her wife, Ms Tanya Byrne and their baby, Meddow.

Her funeral is being held from the Kruik-gemeente at 11am on 29 May.
