Man gets two decades in jail for raping ex girlfriend’s child

The mom discovered her children were abducted when she returned to her friend’s house the next morning.

SECUNDA – The Secunda Regional Court sentenced a man from Lebohang to 23 years’ imprisonment on Thursday, 16 May, for abducting his ex-girlfriend’s kids and raping one of them three years ago.

According to the investigating officer, Sgt Hezekiel Malapela from the police’s unit that cases relating to family violence, child protection and sexual offenses (FCS), the little girl was only seven years old when she was vaginally and anally raped.

Her younger sister was also abducted.

The children’s mother, who had broken up with the rapist, left the kids in the care of a friend while she went out one night.

This was when the disgruntled ex-boyfriend barged into the friend’s house and took the children to his home.

The mom discovered her children were abducted when she returned to her friend’s house the next morning.

The rapist later in the trial changed his plea to that of guilty.

Magistrate Graham Cupido was not convinced that the rapist’s remorse for his actions compelled him to eventually plead guilty.

“Only after hearing that there is a DNA report did you change your plea.”

Mr Cupido said it did count in his favour that he pleaded guilty and spared a child from having to go through the entire trial.

He also ordered that the rapist’s name be entered into the national sex offenders register.

The children are now living with their grandmother.
