The Minister of the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Mr Zweli Mkhize, unexpectedly visited the Lekwa Municipality on Tuesday, 16 April and also inspected the construction of the Rooikoppen booster pump station.
Mr Mkhize demanded answers as to why it remained incomplete.
“Mayor and your team, what you’re subjecting the people of this municipality to is unacceptable,” he said. “I need this project completed by Thursday.”
Residents took to Lekwa’s Facebook page:
Simphiwe Sibeko – There is no political leadership in this municipality, it must be put under administration under the current political leadership. There is no service delivery, just look around Standerton. The town is dead with poor road conditions and pothole are like mine holes.
Sidney Fortein – Now, only because people must vote for you.
The municipality did not respond to these remarks.
