Rooikoppen Hall in Sakhile not fit for its purpose

A second call to the municipality proved fruitless when she was told that the municipality is understaffed.

The Standerton Advertiser was notified about conditions at the Rooikoppen Hall after Ms Angel Khanyile, DA Member of Parliament, visited our offices on 9 April.

The newspaper has in the past reported about conditions at the Sakhile Hall, as well as the Stanwest Hall.

Ms Khanyile booked the Rooikoppen venue through the Lekwa Municipality on 28 February for a meeting for her Angel Foundation on 6 April.

After noticing the dire condition of the ceiling, the uncut grass on the premises and dirt everywhere, she made enquiries at the municipality. She came up however, against a blank wall.

According to her, she was told they can not fix it since they were not buying any material.

A second call to the municipality proved fruitless when she was told that the municipality is understaffed.

“Lekwa gets revenue from hiring out the halls, yet no upkeep is done,” she said.

The newspaper sent an e-mail to Ms Thobeka Mtshiselwa, communications manager of the municipality, for comment on 12 April.

An agreement was reached in the past for a 24-hour period to be given for a reply and comment will be published as soon as possible.
