Municipal offices still closed after refuse dumping rampage by Davel residents

Residents are forced to travel to Ermelo town to pay their accounts, report service delivery issues and other departments like the Home Affairs and SASSA cannot render their services.

The Davel Msukaligwa Municipal offices are still closed and have not been operating since residents went on a refuse dumping spree, not only at the municipal offices, but also at a councillor’s house on Friday, 22 March.

Community members argued at the time, they have to pay not less than R126.50 on a monthly basis, just for refuse removal, which is not done.

According to the community, waste bins are full, dumping sites are pilling-up on a daily basis and a stench surrounds the place, which has led to flies making a home in the township.

The dumping of the refuse at the house and offices led to the municipality offices closure and services rendered were halted.

The Highvelder enquired at the municipality as to when the offices will be opened as it is affecting residents, in that it is eating into their pockets with all the travelling and grant beneficiaries have not received their money.

Municipal spokesman, Mr Mandla Zwane, said the municipality is attending the matter and will look at the grievances of the community and hope the issue will soon be resolved.
