Lewka West is still the number one

The circuit achieved a pass rate of 87,4% for 2018 and the Executive Mayor of the district municipality, Mr Muzi Chirwa, praised those who have excelled and encouraged learners who did not manage to pass.

Lekwa West was awarded the best circuit in the Gert Sibande District at the annual Grade 12 awards in Ermelo.

The circuit achieved a pass rate of 87,4% for 2018 and the Executive Mayor of the district municipality, Mr Muzi Chirwa, praised those who have excelled and encouraged learners who did not manage to pass.

The district is made up of 18 circuit offices. According to Ms Yesmeen Mahomed, Circuit Manager, the circuit was honoured for the fourth consecutive year.

“The circuit’s performance over a five year period has never dropped below 87%,” she said.

Altogether four of the eight schools obtained pass rates of more than 90% last year.

• Thuto-Thebe Secondary School had a pass rate of 97,8% and was the most improved school, registering a 24,7% higher pass rate as compared to 2017.
• The school and Azalea Combined School received awards in the category of schools with more than a 10% improvement, with Azalea Combined School obtaining a pass rate of 96,4%.
• Hoërskool Standerton was commended for their pass rate of 96,7% with 65% of its learners obtaining Bachelors passes.

The school also received an award for three consistent years of excellent performance of between a 90 to 100% pass rate.

Two of their learners were awarded for obtaining the highest subject marks, Omran Marzugi in Mathematics Literacy and Alecia Steyn in Afrikaans Home Language.
