Cable thieves still at large after about 600m of electricity cables are stolen in Ermelo

The municipality urged all residents to report suspicious activity to the local police and the Msukaligwa Municipality call centre.

Cable thieves struck again in Wessel Street on Tuesday, 2 April, digging up about 600m of electricity cables from the ground.

According to Mr Mandla Zwane, spokesman for Msukaligwa Municipality, there are five main supply cables routed in the area.

In a previous interview with Mr Athol Stark from Ermelo Business Association, he expressed that cable theft has had an extremely negative impact on the economy throughout South Africa and is the main cause of major job losses and financial woes in the business sector.

The municipality urge all residents to report suspicious activity to the local police at 017 819 7803 and the Msukaligwa Municipality call centre at 017 801 3400.
