Eskom informed residents that loadshedding will be implemented today because of a shortage of capacity.
It will begin at 11am and continue until 11pm.
The power supplier urged residents to treat all electrical points as live during loadshedding.
Stage 1 calls for 1000MW to be rotationally loadshed nationally at a given period.
Loadshedding is conducted rotationally as a measure of last resort to protect the power system from a total collapse or blackout.
Eskom’s press release read: “We continue to appeal to residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly during this period.
“Please switch off geysers as well as all non-essential lighting and electrical appliances to assist in reducing demand.”
The schedules are available on Eskom’s website at https://loadshedding.eskom.co.za.
