Indigent homes to register with the Govan Mbeki Municipality

Ensure that you have the necessary documents to avoid the disappointment of not being registered.

HIGHVELD – The Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM) is inviting residents who fall into the indigent (poor/poverty stricken) category to register their households.

Registrations are open every Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 4pm until 17 March.

Ensure that you have the following documents to avoid the disappointment of not being registered: 

• A certified copy of your ID
• Declaration form from GMM
• Water and electricity statement
• If you are not the owner or the owner has died, attached should be a letter of authority, proof of income, pay slip or salary advice.
• If the letter of authority cannot be obtained from the magistrate court or high court, GMM will provide a special indigent application form to be completed by the applicant, ward councillor, ward committee and approved by the CFO (based on the reasons provided for not obtaining letter of authority).
• You must have an income of R3 800 or less.
• The income of the entire household should not exceed R3 800, that is including all people staying at your house, including tenants, your spouse and your children.
• You must declare and submit proof of social grants or pension income for your spouse, children or other family members.
• You must also declare all expenses, such as municipal accounts, groceries, transport and education medical costs.
