Still no concrete answers for Kinross community on asbestos pipes

Kinross residents hope that they will be put at ease with answers from the municipality.

KINROSS – Concerns around the removal of the asbestos pipe that burst in Kinross on 1 January arose in the community, because allegedly the removal procedure was not followed.

The pipe was removed and replaced with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) on 3 January by municipality workers, but the resources were purchased by a local businessman.

Kinross town had no water for three days.

The water was restored hours after the replacement was done.

Recently, a member of the Kinross community forwarded an email to the Occupational Health and Safety department at the municipality but no concrete response was given.

The email was then forwarded to Mr Cedric Malaza, the assistant manager responsible for Occupational Health and Safety in the municipality.

The newspaper contacted Mr Malaza, who assured us that the matter was sent to and being dealt with by higher authorities.

No further information was received by the time of going to print.
