Brave Evander neighbour stop dreadlocked burglar in his tracks

It is alleged that the burglar thought he would find valuables to take in the wendy house but after breaking the lock, he realised that it was empty.

EVANDER – “My grandmother noticed that a man in a flamboyant shirt had walked up and down the road at least three times and she became concerned,” said the brave neighbour who approached the suspected burglar walking in their neighbours yard on Tuesday, 12 February.

The neighbour and her mother took their Alsatian dog and walked into the yard to speak to the suspected burglar, who told them that he was there to do some gardening.

“We called the owner of the house to find out if he was expecting anyone, and he said no,” said the vigilant neighbour.

She realised that the man had bad intentions once she saw the door of the wendy house in the yard had been broken into.

The owner alerted Secunda Security Services (SSS) and they were at the house within minutes.

The dreadlocked burglar fled by foot but was chased by the security and the neighbour, who jumped onto the back of the van.

When they spotted him in the green strip near Solly Zwane Road, Mr Bheki Khumalo, security officer, managed to catch him and take him back to the house where they locked him in the house.

The police arrived thereafter and arrested the burglar.

It is alleged that the dreadlocked burglar thought he would find valuables in the wendy house, but after breaking the lock, he realised that it was empty.

The dreadlock of the burglar was left in the yard.

He then attempted to take the gas cylinder that was locked in a cage, which he broke open and disconnected from the line.

The burglar was however stopped by the vigilant neighbours before he could take anything out of the yard.

Evander Police officers took the perpetrator into custody.

“We are very lucky to have such vigilant neighbours. It could have been much worse. We are grateful.” said the owner of the house.

At the police station where the detective was taking statements, the grateful owner also thanked the security guard who managed to catch and bring the burglar to justice.

The wendy house lock was broken for forced entry by the burglar.
