A woman who was seriously injured in the carnage between a truck and five cars, died in hospital on Sunday night.

Two people died on the scene and several were seriously injured in this accident. A pedestrian died shortly thereafter in another accident a few kilometres from the first.

Both accidents involved trucks that belong to Jabula Transport.

Two bodies are trapped in the red Peugeot that was involved in a collision with four other cars and a truck.

The first accident happened closer to the four-way stop at the entrance to eMbalenhle at about 3 and 4am.

According to authorities on the scene, it appeared that some of the vehicles were stationary when a truck collided with them.

The cars involved in the accident were a Peugeot, a BMW, a VW Golf, a Hyundai and a Ford Focus.

After the accident, a colleague of the truck driver arrived in his own truck to support the driver and to provide first aid.

He then left the scene, but a few kilometres further a pedestrian tried to cross the road in front of the oncoming truck.

He was run over and died on the scene.

Mr Shaun Naude, spokesman and safety manager for Jabula Transport, also attended the scenes of the individual accidents on Sunday morning.
