House breakings on the rise in eMzinoni

Criminals target appliances during house breakings

eMZINONI – Police warn residents about the increase of break-ins in the area.

They requested locals to be vigilant at all times in order to minimise the risk of becoming a victim.

Const Cynthia Mtsweni, police spokesman, advised residents to ensure that their doors are properly locked when not at home.

“Upon leaving your home unattended for a long period of time, inform your family members and neighbours so they can report any suspicious people and vehicles.

“Ensure that tools such as axes, spades, picks and ladders, that can be used as weapons in an attack, are locked away when not in use.

“Residents must also maintain good relations with their neighbours, so that they are in a position to help and support one another.

“Never hide keys in easily spotted places, such as pot plants or under doormats. Keys to the safe of the house must be kept on the person,” Const Mtsweni added.

“Report all suspicious persons and vehicles to the police and remember to give a clear description of clothing and vehicles.”
