Ext 8 residents plead with Lekwa Municipality for water

When the Standerton Advertiser arrived, water cans could be seen outside houses, awaiting trucks, that allegedly don't always arrive.

Ext 8 residents are of the opinion that the Lekwa Municipality violates their basic right to water.

Chapter 8 of the South African Constitution makes provision for the right of access to sufficient water.

“Every citizen should have access to water, but that has not been the case in Standerton for many years,” Ms Angel Khanyile, DA MP, said.

According to Ms Khanyile, the municipality has not been supplying clean and sufficient water for about eight years due to technical glitches at the water pump stations.

When the Standerton Advertiser arrived, water cans could be seen outside houses, awaiting trucks that allegedly don’t always arrive.

“The water that is usually delivered, is not nearly sufficient,” Mr Sipho Mazibuko, a resident, said.
