L/Gen praises special task team’s top work

L/t Gen Mondli Zuma thanked police for arresting murder and rape suspect

EVANDER – Lieut-Gen Mondli Zuma commended the police task team for bringing to book the alleged murder and rape suspect of eMbalenhle.

He called on them to now focus on ensuring that the suspect is found guilty by a court of law.

This came after a 30-year-old man appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on 15 January, after he was remanded in custody 14 January, facing three counts of murder, rape, kidnapping and one count of robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The suspect, who had allegedly been terrorising the community of eMbalenhle since 2016, subjecting them to live in fear, was arrested on Friday, 11 January during an integrated operation comprising of members of the police, the Department of Health and the National Prosecuting Authority.

The suspect has been linked through forensic investigation to several contact crimes involving young girls aged between the ages of 11 and 16.

According to information at the police’s disposal, the villain allegedly ambushed his victims, drag them to nearby bushes at knifepoint where he would then carry out these heinous acts, and then dumped the bodies of the victims in the street. The bodies were recovered not far from each other and two of the victims are from the same family.

As the investigation continues, more charges are likely to be added to the list.

The suspect was remanded in custody and the case postponed to 22 January, for a formal bail application.
