Gert Sibande District Municipality municipa manager, Mr Absenia Habile, to receive security after threats to his life
After careful consideration to the financial implications applied, in that, no new security contract was made, GSDM made an extension of a readily available VIP protection service to be used to guard Mr Habile.
The Gert Sibande District Municipal (GSDM) Council recently took a decision to provide personal security to the Municipal Manager, Mr Absenia Habile.
This was in reaction to numerous incidents where Mr Habile had repeatedly received life-threatening messages directed at himself and his family members.
These messages have reportedly affected Mr Habile’s well-being to the extent that they even started impacting negatively on his ability to perform his duties as the accounting officer at the municipality.
The matter was reported to the Ermelo Police. This was followed with an urgent request for a Security Threat and Risk Assessment to the Office of the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma.
To date, there has not been any response or feedback on the matter.
Despite not receiving feedback from General Zuma’s office, GSDM made the decision to avoid fatal repercussions.
After careful consideration to the financial implications applied, in that, no new security contract was made, GSDM made an extension of a readily available VIP protection service to be used to guard Mr Habile.
This is a three-month arrangement until the police commissioner’s office could advise accordingly and police can conclude on the case.
The GSDM leadership wishes to allay fears and concerns from some community members and any concerned groups of mismanagement of funds, as this has been done within the transcripts of the law and will have no negative financial implications.
