Ermelo Police recently welcomed a new station commander, visible police commander and commander of detectives.

Col. Sdumo Ngcobo, who is appointed as the station commander, began at the station on Wednesday, 2 January, but is not unfamiliar with Ermelo station.

He began his career at the South African Police in 1987 as a Constable at Ermelo Police Station. From there he served 17 years as the Station Commander in Amersfoort, before in 2018 he was transferred to Standerton to the cluster office.

He is adamant to obtain a close working relationship with the private security sector in Ermelo, the media and the community.

“We will be interacting with community members to obtain a trusting relationship with the community members as they are our eyes and ears on the street,” Col Ngcobo said.

According to him, people will be able to interact with the police while on foot patrol to get to know the officers who need to protect them.

He added that the criminal activities will decrease as the police visibility increase, as criminals will release that the police is always close by.

They are planning to make police visibility a priority the coming year by increasing police foot patrols every Friday and month end to ensure the safety of community members.

Col Ngcobo is committed to being more involved in the schools to educate learners and teachers about drugs.

Ermelo Police are excited about the two other high-ranking positions that had been filled at the beginning of the year.

Lieutenant Colonel Boitumelo Mokwena is appointed as the commander of Detective Service of Ermelo and Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Mndawe is appointed as the commander of Visible Police.

“I am excited to work with my new team and build relationships with the members of Ermelo community and private security companies,” Col Ngcobo added.

He encouraged anyone with information to criminal activity in Ermelo to report it to the police.
