One little body found, but second one is still missing

BETHAL – The second child’s body has been found 1.5m under the water in a quarry on the farm, Eerstegeluk.

This little girl and her friend drowned while playing in the water this afternoon.

Initial reports indicated that they drowned in a farm dam.

EMS Bethal recovered one of the bodies at the side of the dam as it was visible.

Recovery of the 2nd body was done by Delta 1 Rescue Diving and Mpumalanga Inland Water Policing.

The one girl turned nine-years-old in September and the other would have celebrated her ninth birthday on 31 December.

16:00 BETHAL – Two nine-year-old girls drowned in a dam on the farm Eerstegeluk between Bethal and Hendrina this afternoon, 18 December.

The farm is situated along the Kuilsfontein road.

According to Ms Cindy Swart from Bethal EMS, one child’s body has been dragged from the dam.

“The other little girl is still missing,” said Ms Swart.

The emergency workers are on the scene waiting for Delta 1 Rescue Divers and the Police divers.
