Enjoy Black Friday, but be security-conscious

Avoid being a crime victim by shopping with a single credit card because it’s easier to cancel one card than several, if a wallet or purse gets lost or stolen.

Mr Jannie Kasselman of Kasselman Security Services (KSS) shared the following safety precautions and urged residents not to let excitement get the better of them at this year’s Black Friday and ending up losing belongings, while shopping.

Avoid being a crime victim by:

• shopping with a single credit card because it’s easier to cancel one card than several, if a wallet or purse gets lost or stolen.

• only shopping at websites you trust when shopping online.

• reporting lost or stolen credit, debit, and ATM cards immediately.

• not getting distracted to avoid being conned.

• monitoring your spending and keeping receipts for refunds or in case you need to exchange.

• keeping your wallet in your front pocket or very close to you.

• parking your car in a well-lit area and close to the entrance of the shopping mall.

• dressing comfortably and bringing a bottle of water to stay hydrated.

• planning your shopping routes.

• making sure your cell phone is on.
